Man gets stuck in chimney during escape attempt

FALL RIVER – It looks like it the big man in red is not the only one crawling down the chimneys in December.

One man found himself in a tough spot Tuesday when an alleged attempt to escape with what Fall River police called “Santa antics” led to him getting stuck in a chimney and ultimately arrested.

According to Sgt. FRPD Public Information Officer Ross Aubin, such a ruckus occurred at 127 Canal St. on Tuesday evening, when detectives from the Community Action & Suppression Team executed a search warrant on drug charges.

During this time, FRPD said, two men fled the Canal Street residence onto the roof.

One man was arrested after jumping from the roof onto a parked car, police said. The other, identified as 33-year-old Robert Langlias, allegedly tried to evade investigators by hiding in a chimney, but ended up in even more trouble.

Langlias became stuck in the chimney and had to be rescued by Fall River detectives and Fall River Emergency Medical Services, police said.

Langlias was taken into custody as a precaution and transported to a local hospital “due to his Santa antics,” police said. He has now been medically cleared, police said.

Langlias faces charges of possession of class A drugs, possession of class B drugs and a slew of charges on outstanding warrants.

Police also arrested Tanisha Ibay, 32, “with less theatrics” on charges of possession of Class A and B drugs.
