Jebel Boma youths foil cattle raid

Local youth in Jebel Boma County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) foiled a cattle attack by armed assailants on the district headquarters, Jebel Boma Town, on Tuesday, authorities said.

The district commissioner, Longony Alston, told Radio Tamazuj that the rustling 87 head of cattle had been recovered and the attackers who he suspected were from neighboring Eastern Equatoria state escaped unscathed.

“At 2am on Tuesday, some criminals from Taposa in the Kapoeta area of ​​Eastern Equatoria attacked the town of Jebel Boma,” he said. “They rustled 87 cattle, but our youth managed to get them back later.”

Meanwhile, Provincial Information Director Docklace De Telmaris Api confirmed the raid and called on Eastern Equatoria State authorities to strengthen border security.

“No one was killed or injured in the attack. During the firefight, the attackers were repulsed and fled. The 87 cattle they looted were all recovered,” he stated. “We urge the government of Eastern Equatoria State to stop these recurring attacks.”

However, when contacted, the Kapoeta East County Commissioner said he could not comment on the matter as he was in a meeting.
