There are many vacancies in engineering colleges of IT companies and GCCs

Campus placements are seeing positive momentum at engineering colleges this year, with top information technology services providers and Global Capability Centers (GCCs) competing to hire freshers. Colleges are reporting a robust job supply this year, up from nearly 50-60 percent over the same period last year.

business line reported in November that the top four IT companies recorded positive net hiring for the first time in two years, as workforce utilization increases and new projects ramp up. The same continues in December as placement action increases.

At Vellore Institute of Technology this year, 10,458 offers were made by 409 companies; The GCCs accounted for half of that. Another 6,000 students still need to be placed. By comparison, 8,000 offers were made in 2023, the source said.

For example, TCS has made 3,912 offers this year, compared to 1,000 last year; Informed (850); Infosys (650) and MindTree (540) versus 200 to 300 last year.

Some of the top multinationals and GCCs that offered jobs at VIT included Microsoft, Amazon, PWC, Deloitte, KPMG, Bank of America and HSBC, the source said. Nearly 50 percent of the hiring came from GCCs, the source said.

At SASTRA University in Thanjavur, 1,860 offers were made by around 100 recruiters. More than 50 recruiters have agreed to visit the campus in the next 1-2 months, a source said. Recruiters are very careful in their selection and want to select the best. However, the bulk recruiters are not giving offers like they did before Covid. “We are very positive and confident that we will receive a good number of offers in the even semester (January-June) and achieve our annual target as usual,” the source said.

An Anna University source said the placement figures are identical to last year. The number of students drawing salaries above ₹20 lakh has increased significantly. “We have asked the service sector to hold a second selection round preferably in March to recruit all our students,” the source said.

Sriram Rajagopal, co-founder of Diamondpick, a recruitment solutions provider, said placements in engineering campuses have been better than last year. “Most IT service providers have maxed out and are hiring for replacement and new growth. IT spending is showing signs of improvement,” he said.

Monica Jamwal, Managing Director, Talent Solutions, ANSR, said GCCs, especially mature ones, plan to hire 50% more freshers compared to last year across all positions. “GCCs offer up to 30% higher salary offers than domestic IT services providers,” she added. According to ANSR Research, 5 to 10 percent of GCC hires annually come from college campuses.

According to Rajesh Kumar, co-founder and CEO of Kalvium, an education and skilling platform, the current number of vacancies was reached only in February-March last year as GCCs and product companies have offered more jobs and also hired IT services. fetched. “GCCs offer both Level 1 jobs (basic profile that freshers would do in service industries) and higher level jobs that require deeper algorithmic problem-solving skills,” he added.
