Evil nanny flees to China after footage shows her two-day-old American baby being physically abused

A chilling case of child abuse in California has attracted international attention after a babysitter was caught on camera violently abusing a two-day-old baby.

The nanny, Guitan Liu, fled to China before authorities could intervene, leaving behind a devastated family and an outraged public calling for justice.

Trusted caregiver turned villain

The wealthy Chinese-American family, living in a £6.27 million ($8 million) mansion in Hillsborough, California, hired Liu, 56, in September to care for their newborn daughter.

Liu came highly recommended by what they believed to be a reputable reference. Shockingly, it was later revealed that the referral was a fraudulent endorsement written by her own daughter, Christina Liu, an HR professional at TikTok.

Following the revelations, TikTok reportedly terminated Christina’s employment. Liu started working for the family shortly after the birth of their daughter.

She was entrusted with the care of the child during the delicate period after childbirth, a time when new parents are highly dependent on caregivers.

However, just days after she was hired, Liu’s abusive behavior began to surface.

The first alarming signals

WARNING: disturbing images of abuse

On October 2, the parents were alerted to Liu’s rough handling of the baby via a baby monitor’s live feed.

The mother, initially concerned but unaware of the full extent of the abuse, confronted Liu, who denied wrongdoing and burst into tears pleading her innocence. She assured the family that she would never harm a child.

Later that evening, the father decided to view previous images from the baby monitor. What he discovered was far more disturbing than he could have imagined: Liu was repeatedly caught shaking, hitting and choking the child.

In one case, she violently hit the baby’s head with a bottle of formula. The child’s anguished screams were horrifying, but Liu continued her actions without hesitation.

Evidence of repeated abuse

Further footage showed that the abuse was not a one-off incident, but a repeated pattern of cruelty.

Liu was seen roughly yanking the baby’s limbs, throwing her over a bed like a rag doll and pressing a blanket against her face for extended periods of time, risking suffocation.

These acts, horrific in themselves, took place over several days.

The traumatized parents immediately discharged Liu and took their baby to the hospital.

Medical evaluations, including X-rays and an MRI, showed no obvious physical injuries, but doctors warned that neurological damage could manifest years later.

Escape to China

When the family reported the abuse to Hillsborough police, they learned that Liu had already fled the country.

Authorities believe she was assisted by her daughter, Christina Liu, in organizing her escape to China.

Christina is said to have helped her mother avoid responsibility by arranging her quick departure and using her professional network to quell any immediate consequences.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe has condemned Liu’s actions as “unspeakably evil.”

He confirmed that Liu faces multiple felony counts of child abuse, each carrying a maximum sentence of six years.

“Given the magnitude of this case, she could face decades in prison if convicted,” Wagstaffe said.

Social media commotion

The baby’s mother uses the Instagram handle “Bay Area mother D‘, shared her family’s harrowing ordeal. She posted several clips of the baby monitor footage, showing the abuse in graphic detail.

In one particularly disturbing video, Liu was seen holding the baby and covering her nose and mouth, causing the child to struggle desperately.

The mother also exposed Christina Liu’s role in fabricating the reference and called for public support to ensure justice is served.

The investigation continues as Hillsborough Police work with federal agencies to locate Liu. Wagstaffe has vowed to pursue justice and stressed the seriousness of the crime.

“The victim in this case was completely defenseless: a two-day-old baby. There is no other word for this level of cruelty than evil.”
